Built-in joinery, bespoke furniture and full fit-outs. One-offs built to suit the space.

I take on carpentry and fit-out work across Nelson, Richmond, Motueka, Māpua and the wider Tasman district.

Scope

What I make

Built-in joinery

Shelving, storage, window seats and cabinetry built into the space rather than bought to roughly fit it.

Bespoke furniture

Tables, benches, bedside tables and outdoor furniture, made from new or recycled timber to the size you actually need.

Commercial fit-outs

Counters, display walls, bar shelving and retail joinery. Work that has to look good and take daily use.

Container and van fit-outs

Shipping containers and vans lined, insulated and fitted out, from a tidy storage build to a liveable interior.

Sheds and outbuildings

Garden sheds, storage, workshops and garden office pods.

Planters and raised beds

Timber planters, raised garden beds and retaining built to last more than a couple of seasons.

Why it matters

Built to the space, not to a catalogue

The reason people get things built rather than bought is almost always that the space is awkward. A wall that is not square, an alcove that no standard unit fits, a van interior where every millimetre counts. That is where making something specific is worth the money.

I came up through a family construction business and trained across a range of trades, so the work goes from rough carpentry through to finished joinery. Framing a container out, lining it, and then building the cabinetry that goes inside it is all the same job to me.

Recycled and reclaimed timber is fair game too. A fair bit of my favourite work has come out of pallet timber and old boards that were headed for a skip.

Worth knowing

Worth having something made when

  • Nothing off the shelf fits the space, and the near-enough option annoys you every day.
  • You are losing a whole area to dead space that could be storage.
  • You want it in a specific timber, finish or size.
  • You are fitting out a container, van or small space where every millimetre counts.
  • You have timber you want used rather than replaced.
  • It needs to take daily commercial use, not just look good on day one.

What Tasman locals say

I highly recommend Daniel from Handy Property Care! He helped us with repairs around the house, including some roof work and fixing a shelf in the kitchen. He was efficient, friendly, and punctual, and his prices are reasonable.

We are very pleased with the work that Dan from Handy Property Care has done on our properties. His completed work is of a high standard, whether outside (garden maintenance) or indoors. He recently refurbished a bathroom that had extensive water damage, and again, superb workmanship.

Dan communicates clearly, turns up when he says he will, does a great job and charges appropriately. He's done long grass strimming for me twice now and I'd highly recommend him. I'll be back for all future tasks needing doing!

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Not covered here? Call me on 021 0839 2908 and ask.

Do you make furniture to order?

Yes. Tables, benches, bedside tables, outdoor furniture and one-off pieces. Bring me a size, a rough idea and a timber preference and I will tell you what is realistic.

Can you work with recycled timber?

Happily. Some of the work I am most pleased with has come out of pallet timber and reclaimed boards. It takes longer to prepare, which I will factor into the quote, but the result is worth it.

Do you do commercial fit-outs as well as residential?

Yes. Counters, display joinery, bar shelving and retail work. Commercial gets used harder than a home does, so it gets built accordingly.

Can you fit out a container or a van?

Yes, and it is some of my favourite work. Framing, insulation, lining and then the cabinetry, whether it is tidy storage or something you can live in.

How do I get a price for a one-off build?

Send through what you have in mind, with a rough size and any photos or sketches. For anything involved I will come and measure up. There is no charge for working it out with you.
